Words of Wisdom for Sustainability Pros: 35 Quotes That Will Keep You Going

Are you a Sustainability professional with a passion for protecting the environment and a sense of moral duty when you wake up in the morning to go to work? When asked what your job is, do you sometimes wish you could answer “I’m trying to save the planet” without sounding pretentious or ridiculous?

If you’re like me,  you can easily navigate between two strong but yet opposite feelings in your everyday work: the urgency of bringing your plate to the table, and the dejection when you turn the TV news on or realize your work is just a drop in the sea.

Because I also – sometimes – feel demotivated when discussing with friends of mine who don’t believe in climate change, or don’t recycle, I listed my favorite green & inspirational quotes to remind us of what we fight for and keep us motivated about the utility of what we’re doing every day.

Hi Marion, inspiring yes but frustrating as this continues the myth that sustainability is more expensive.

Sustainability is only more expensive if we don’t measure the true cost of the status quo. Or sustainability is only more expensive if we let others share the cost of the status quo.

In reality many sustainable practices are lower cost in a relatively short time frame. The video is one such example.

That is the real problem- we have a financial system tuned to measuring cost (not value) over 3 or 4 quarters.

Hi Dave. I completely agree with your conclusion, however I don’t understand how these quotes continue the myth that Sustainability is more expensive :( Can you explain?

      Best!
